Wellness

"It's easier to stay well than to get well."

Everywhere you turn, debilitating conditions such as fatigue, stress, pain, cancer, heart disease, diabetes and obesity are on the rise. Many of these and other chronic diseases are preventable -even curable- depending on how we choose to live our lives. Still, the fact remains that the incidence of preventable disease continues to rise at a troubling rate. Do not doubt for a moment that your health and sense of well being correlate directly with the lifestyle choices that you make. How can you know which choices are right for you? Lifestyle changes may have a profound impact on the prevention and control of chronic disease. This is encouraging news, as it means that you can enact major change to your own health.

Lifestyle choices including diet and exercise have a greater impact on your health than does your hereditary. Positive lifestyle choices include every aspect of life: physical, chemical and emotional. Wellness is a personal choice. It is a daily decision one makes toward achieving and maintaining optimum health. Wellness is a way of life. Design and live a healthful lifestyle to achieve your highest potential and greatest well being. Wellness is a process, a developing awareness that does not end. Health and happiness are possible each moment, and you can begin right here and now.

Wellness is a positive acceptance that everything we do, think, feel and believe has a direct impact on our state of health. Chief economist and respected author Paul Zane Pilzer clearly articulates the difference between today's health care system, which he refers to as 'sick care' and 'wellness care'. Pilzer states, "The sickness business is reactive. Despite its enormous size, people become customers only when they are stricken by and react to a specific condition or complaint... the wellness business is proactive. People voluntarily become customers-- to feel healthier, to reduce the effects of aging, and to avoid becoming customers of the sickness business. Everyone wants to be a customer of this earlier stage approach to health."

Chiropractic theory is based on the fact that the human body is self-healing, self-regulating and self-developing. Chiropractic medicine is of the belief that your nervous system, or CNS, is the master controller of your body. If you cut your finger, it heals by itself. You don't have to take a pill or do anything to make that healing happen. Life heals, and it's as simple as that. You live your life through your nervous system. It is the master system and controller of the human body. Right now, your heart is beating, your kidneys are functioning, your liver is working and your brain chemicals are flowing-- all without so much as a thought from you. Your central nervous system coordinates everything and makes it all happen.

Interference with the function of your central nervous system impedes your body's ability to heal and regulate. A central nervous system functioning at limited capacity translates into limited wellness. If a person is to optimally create higher levels of wellness, they need to remove CNS interference as a part of the healing process. Just think of all the stressors with which we are constantly bombarded-- poor diet, environmental pollutants, emotional and/or physical stress, an unhappy work or personal life, et cetera. It is no wonder that the body's natural ability to heal itself is weakened. When this occurs, your body needs a little outside help to bring it back to balance. This is where chiropractic medicine comes into play.

Chiropractic practitioners are uniquely trained to bring back the balance between the body and the nervous system. Millions of people, from babies to senior citizens, benefit from chiropractic adjustments every year. While chiropractic medicine is widely known for its profound effects on relief of back and neck pain, its most crucial role is in the balance of health and well being. The foundation, intent and vision of chiropractic extends far beyond simply helping to reduce symptoms. The very foundation of chiropractic medicine is natural wellness and health.
